Indonesia's manufacturing sector contributes approximately 28% of total national carbon emissions. Of these, nearly a quarter comes from manufacturing plants.
The textile, food and beverage, and chemical industries are major contributors. The dyeing, drying, and finishing processes require significant thermal energy, typically generated by burning coal.
This is a significant challenge that requires a fundamental transformation in the way the industry operates.

Before the long-term energy transition, there are practical steps that can be implemented immediately:
1. Switching to LED Lights LEDs convert 80-90% of energy into light. The initial investment is relatively low with measurable long-term financial benefits.
2. Air Compressor Optimization Pipe leak detection and operational parameter adjustments. Cost-effective and can be implemented in stages.
3. Smart Air Conditioning with Variable Speed Drive (VSD) The air conditioner automatically adjusts its speed based on real-time demand throughout the day.

The sugar palm (Arenga pinnata) is more than just a source of palm sugar. Recent research shows its extraordinary potential for decarbonization.
Carbon Sequestration Capacity:
Lands with sugar palm trees absorb significant amounts of carbon from the atmosphere. If Indonesia develops 2 million hectares of land (as per the national program), this land could contribute significantly.
A sustainable and environmentally friendly model of arenga farming.

When sugar palms are harvested for sugar, significant organic waste remains that can be used as high-quality fuel for the mill:
· Fronds (large leaves)
· Fiber from processing
· Empty bunches
· Trunk cuttings Real-Time
Research Data:
632 sugar palm trees produce 14.40-21.60 tons of waste per day, equivalent to 864,000 liters of biogas or 535.68 liters of kerosene per day.

Coal = Non-renewable Model:
· Finite resource (limited reserves)
· Fossil fuel (non-renewable)
· Import (high cost & logistics)
· Extractive economic model
Palm = Renewable Model:
· Can be replanted annually
· Waste can be utilized after harvest
· Local (supports regional economies & farmers)
· Sustainable circular economy model
This difference is significant for long-term sustainability.

Indonesia has the potential to address the challenges of decarbonization in the manufacturing sector through a combination of integrated strategies: energy efficiency as an accessible foundation, diversification of energy sources through local potential, a supportive framework from the government, and collaboration between industries.
With realistic and collaborative planning, Indonesia's manufacturing sector can contribute to national decarbonization targets while improving operational efficiency.
